Evanston was home to one of Wyoming's largest Chinese communities in the 1870s-80s — Chinese railroad workers who helped build the Union Pacific settled here, and the city's Chinatown at its peak had several hundred residents. A distinctive Joss House (Chinese temple) was the largest of its kind in Wyoming. Anti-Chinese violence (related to the Rock Springs Massacre in 1885) eventually drove most of the community out. A reconstruction of the Joss House at the Uinta County Museum preserves this largely-forgotten chapter of Wyoming history.

Moving in Evanston: FAQ.
Is Evanston Wyoming different from Evanston Illinois?
Completely — different states, different cities. Evanston, Wyoming is a small railroad town at the Utah border (12K population). Evanston, Illinois is a Chicago suburb home to Northwestern University (80K population). When hiring movers, always confirm state. The Wyoming Evanston is 1.5 hours from Salt Lake City and worlds apart from Chicago's affluent north-shore suburb.
